About Pinnacles Walk / Kauaeranga Kauri Trail

The Difficulty Rating: ★★⯪☆☆2.5

Pinnacles Walk (Kauaeranga Kauri Trail) is a popular track in Coromandel Peninsula. We had this trip with my enthusiastic cousin during our stay in Auckland, 2014. As it has been a long time ago, I could only recall a few things about this day hike.

Most of the walk was pretty simple until the last section to climb to the lookout of The Pinnacles. This magnificent peak of Pinnacles, protruding sharply toward the sky, marks the highlight of the hike. The view at The Pinnacles was awesome. The lush rolling hillside of Coromandel Peninsula reminds me of the mountains in Taiwan, indicating a warmer and humid environment.

The hike is an ordinary easy walk except the ascent via the steep section where there are ladders and metal bars anchored to the rocks to assist you scrambling to the lookout. (DOC advises to stay in the platform, not to go beyond the fences.) If you are not afraid of heights, this steep climb should not be tricky.
