Hooker Valley Track (Hooker Track on this map) is an easy walk that most of tourists in Aoraki / Mount Cook would walk at least for a section of it as long as you do not rush to the next destination. This is a half-day trip starting from White Horse Hill Campsite on the track of gentle gradient. There are three swing bridges before the end of the track at the downstream side of Hooker Lake. My partner and I visited the track in 2014 during our 3-day trip in Mount Cook. Probably because the weather was not ideal and also the walk was pretty easy, the only thing I still remembered was the “icebergs” floating on the Hooker Lake. Unlike my imagination about a glacier, the terminus of Hooker Glacier as well as the icebergs broken away from the glacier were actually covered by a layer of rock debris. They were not looking crystal bright at all, not very visually impressive.
If you are experienced in hiking, the walk for Hooker Valley Track might be optional as there are more challenging and rewarding trails in this area, such as Mueller Hut Route or Sefton Bivouac, where you can overlook Hooker Valley at height, and more glaciers are there to see.
