About 85 Sky Tower and its view deck
Kaohsiung 85 Sky Tower (高雄85大樓) is an 85-story skyscraper; its height is second only to Taipei 101. When the building construction was finished in 1997 it was the tallest building in Taiwan.
The view deck on 74th floor was the best place to see the panorama of the city and the landscape miles and miles away. I visited the place for three times and surprisingly found it a neat place to take photos without any interruption from other tourists.
There was a Cafe and gift shop but it seemed they were not busy; small numbers of visitors came here intermittently and many of them only stayed for a short time. I really think this place deserve more spotlight from tourists.
Sadly many business have shut down the operation in this building; The skyscraper is still the most prominent landmark in Kaohsiung City but it appeared a dimmed building during the nights since a couple of years ago. The view deck is not open at the moment (2026), but I truly expect its return soon or later.
Without this view deck the highest place people can overlook the cityscape of Kaohsiung is at Shoushan (壽山), but you need to get there on foot not by elevators.
