About Jinlun

Jinlun (金崙) is a small town to the south of Taitung City, flanked by the Pacific Ocean and Central Mountain Range on each side. Like many towns near the mountains in Taiwan, it is known for the hot spring. Long before my first visit in 2024, I already passed by it many times during my military service in Taitung. Every time on the way back to duty when I heard the announcement, “Jinlun Station!” on the train, I knew it is the time to get ready for the coming tough days. It was the name linked to some stressful emotion unfortunately, given the scene outside the window was so nice.

In November 2024, we visited Jinlun for a 3-day trip, which was not our plan on this vacation. After the odd weather unleashed an army of typhoons / tropical depressions coming toward Taiwan very late in that year, forcing us to abandon two scheduled hikes which I have prepared for so long, we found that this place might be free from the impact of northeast monsoon and remained undamaged by the passing typhoons. We departed from Kaohsiung, seeking some remedy for my broken heart.

The three days in Jinlun was fulfilling; we went to some spots around the town by scooter under the unforgiving sunshine. There were plenty of eateries in the town but the most impressive one was a stall selling chicken cutlets, the best one I had in the past several years.
