About Chenggong
Chenggong (成功) is the largest town along the coastline between Taitung and Hualien. The seafood and the scenic place, Sanxiantai (三仙台) are the two major attractions of the town. If you hire a scooter at Taitung Train Station and ride along the Highway 11 northward with a slow pace, taking photos and breaks on the way, you may arrive the town in two hours.
Many tourists may enjoy a meal in Chenggong before or after the walk in Sanxiantai, where is 10-minute away from the town. Then they may carry on the trip either to Hualien, or traversing the Coast Mountain Range to East Longitudinal Valley (East Rift Valley 花東縱谷) via Highway 30 or simply return to Taitung.
During our three-day stay in this town in 2022, we visited the coast around Sanxiantai during its quiet hours, the town’s beautiful coast park, Hsin-Kang Fishing Harbor (新港漁港) and Jihui Fishing Pier (基翬漁港), having a look around the sites where the locals work and relax. The town does not shine like a city in the evening but is full of energetic vibe in tranquil air.
The arch bridge to the island of Sanxiantai is under maintenance; the work might be done by the end of 2027.
