Shoushan (壽山) “LOVE” Lookout is at a corner of the front square of Kaohsiung Martyr’s Shrine (高雄忠烈祠), perches on a foothill of Shoushan and overlooks half of the city and the entire Port of Kaohsiung.
Since 2013 I visited this place many times to take photos or time-lapse videos. The small two-story platform never slept during each time I was there, even at 3 AM there were some people lingering and chatting (or dating I assume).
From time to time I had to chat with strangers during the shooting: one shared his political opinion, unfortunately it was on the far end of my spectrum; one foreigner told me using a translation app that he tried to capture the image of a comet; a group of teens picked up a wallet but they worried if they send it to a police station, they might be in trouble as they were not licensed to ride scooters; shortly after they left, the owner turned up to find his missing wallet…
During the daytime the wooden lookout often vibrated more or less due to the constant movement of tourists or energetic young kids, and the visitors around accidentally entered the frame of the lens several times, not an ideal environment for shooting but that the way it was.
Anyway my experience there was still very positive: great view, friendly atmosphere and easy to arrive. Definitely a highly recommended scenic spot in Kaohsiung.
