About Jialulan
Jialulan (加路蘭) is my favorite scenic spot along the eastern coast of Taiwan. It is close to Xiaoyeliu (小野柳), around 15 minute drive toward the north of Taitung City. The scenery at Jialulan impressed me intensely when I had my military service in Taitung many years ago. Since then I dropped in this place many times whenever I traveled in Taitung.
It is the great location to view the magnificent Coastal Mountain Range (海岸山脈) which protrudes sharply from the shore and extends to the distant horizon of Pacific Ocean. The highest mountain on the southern section of the range, Dulanshan (都蘭山), towers up like the green guardian of the local communities scattered along the Dulan Bay (都蘭灣) in azure blue.
With the abundant parking lots, public toilet, the lookout and a few artwork, this spacious place is a resting point for many travelers who will carry on their trips to different destinations. During all of my visits I have never felt the crowdedness. Jialulan is friendly for travelers who wish to linger on the edge of mountain and sea with some sort of solitude. Throughout the years there have been more and more items being exhibited and erected there but I still miss my first look of Jialulan, the original one in my memory.
