Qixingshan (七星山) is the tallest mountain in Taipei City. Although it looks calm on the surface, much to many people’s surprise, it is still an active volcano belonging to Datun Volcano Group which may have its latest eruption approximately 6000 years ago. Even the elevation of Qixingshan, 1118 m, is not particularly high, occasional snowfall is possible in winter.
There are a few tracks that lead to this most-visited mountain in Yangmingshan National Park. Going to these trail heads by public transportation is possible. The track I went to the top of Qixingshan was on staircases, a very straightforward walk. I was rewarded with the panorama of the whole Taipei and a part of the coastline under the feet.
